10 Reasons to Have Faith in God

“Why have faith in God?” one might ask. Here are 10 reasons to have faith in God. I understand that we live in a world where it might be difficult to trust God due to the increasing levels of global economic meltdown, insecurity, natural disasters, and more. In addition, many people no longer see reasons to rely on God for anything. This could be due to unanswered prayers among Christians or our changing social values and increasing opportunities brought about by advancements in science and technology.

However, the Word of God is true and cannot be broken. This means that our failures to receive from God may be because we have not believed or we lack the proper understanding of the subject of FAITH. The purpose of this write-up is to give you a clear understanding of what faith is and to help you see 10 reasons to have faith in God.

What is Faith?

According to Hebrews 1:1 (GNT), “faith is defined as being sure of the things we cannot see.”

Hebrews 11:1 (GNT) To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for, to be certain of the things we cannot see.

Note here that the Bible didn’t say “things that do not exist,” rather it says things that cannot be seen but are real. So here comes the question: Are Christians sure of this supernatural existence of God and the infallibility of his words?

This simple assurance is what is called faith, and without it, no one can please God or receive anything from him. As the Bible says, “He that comes to God must believe that he is (exists) and is the rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).

The existence of God has been clearly manifested by what he has created and through his own witnesses via signs and wonders. Through these, we understand that things that are seen were made by things that are not seen.

Also, promises are made before they are fulfilled. There has never been a time when a promise is fulfilled before it is made. As a result, faith (acceptance and assur.ance of the promise) is important.

Humans are born into the middle of history without experiential knowledge of the past and no knowledge of the future. Therefore, we have to rely on accurate information about the past and trust the promises of God for the future. “For by faith, we understand that the world was framed by the word of God” (Hebrews 11:3).

Now, let’s delve into the reasons to have faith in God. Shall we?

10 Reasons to Have Faith in God

Having discussed what faith is, I would like to highlight 10 scriptural reasons why you cannot do without faith:

Reason 1: It is the foundation of salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (GNT) For it is by God's grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God's gift, so that no one can boast about it.
Romans 5:1 (GNT) Now that we have been put right with God through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Also, Romans 1:17 (GNT) says, "For the gospel reveals how God puts people right with himself: it is through faith from beginning to end. As the scripture says, “The person who is put right with God through faith shall live.”

No man has ever been justified in the sight of God since the creation of the world by any other means other than faith. Faith has always been the only means of justification, even before and after the law was introduced. Abraham was declared by God to be righteous because of his faith in Him, and not because of the works of the law which was given to his descendants centuries later.

In our time, the Lord also gave Jesus Christ who died for us, so that by faith in Him mankind will be saved. Therefore, you will be justified by your faith in Jesus Christ that works through love. For he that believes shall not perish but anyone who doesn’t believe is condemned already.

St. John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
St. John 3:18 (KJV) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Therefore, faith in God through Jesus Christ is a must for any one to be saved regardless of your tribe, background, class, color or position in life.

The Acts 4:12 (KJV) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Reason 2: Faith in God Gives You Peace and a Sure Hope in the Darkest Hour of Life.

Everyone wants to live happily, isn’t it? But we are constantly being confronted by situations that stir up fear and hopelessness in our lives, such as the one experienced by Paul and Silas in prison.

For these men, their trust in the faithfulness of God gave them hope and peace, causing them to sing praises aloud unto Him even though they were in chains, and the Lord delivered them. Yes, each time you keep your gaze on the Lord and not on the circumstances around you, you will be filled with hope, peace, and strength unto victory by the power of God.

You will never lack joy when you trust in God. There is always joy in knowing that you are constantly protected from all harm, provided for, and cared for by the ever immutable, all-powerful, everlasting, and indefatigable Jehovah. When you have faith that the Lord loves you and will always answer your prayers, worries will become a thing of the past in your life. Yes, why won’t you live happily? You will definitely live in accordance to what Paul said in the book of Philippians.

Philippians 4:6 Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Philippians 4:7 If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Dear reader, the Lord made you and wants you to be happy. But that can only be possible by wholeheartedly trusting in the Lord and banishing fear, for He is faithful and will keep His promises to you. Free yourself from depression. It’s good for your health. You see, it is very much necessary for you to have faith in God so that you can live a peaceful and happy life.

Reason 3: Faith in God Enable You to Stand Firm in Face of Impossibilities.

Faith in God, and the knowledge of His unlimited power, enables you to stand firm in the face of life’s impossible situations that present themselves as immovable mountains in your life.

David was able to stand before Goliath and was even assured of his victory over him, irrespective of the humiliating and intimidating stature of the Philistine, because he knew his God. Dear reader, you too can have such courage unto victory in the face of terminal diseases, abject poverty, and pressing needs, if you will trust in the Lord.

Reason 4: You honor and please God by your faith in Him.

Hebrews 11:6 (NLT) So, you see, it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that there is a God and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Genesis 15:6 (NLT) And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord declared him righteous because of his faith.

In the above scripture, God was honored and pleased by Abraham because he trusted Him. God is pleased with us when we believe in Him and trust His words. In the Bible, the life of Rahab, a harlot of the city of Jericho, was spared from destruction because she believed in the hand and workings of God in the children of Israel. As a sign that the Lord was pleased with her, she was included in the lineage of His son Jesus Christ. Therefore, your faith in God is an honor unto Him, and whosoever honors the Lord, the Lord will also honor.

Do you want to please the Lord? You must need to trust in Him with all your heart and lean not on your understanding.

Reason 5: God is omnipotent, Ever-Dependable and Reliable

As the creator of the entire universe and all within it, there is nothing beyond His capability. Jesus once said to His disciples that nothing is impossible with God. By having faith in the Lord, you step into a realm of endless possibilities. In this state, you rise above all your troubles through the spirit of God, which orchestrates all things.

Only God has a 100 percent record of being faithful and present in times of need. The Bible is filled with stories of God’s faithfulness to the people of Israel in times of trouble, and even to the gentiles who placed their trust in Him. God has never and can never change. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He answered prayers yesterday, He can and will do it today and tomorrow. All who put their trust in the Lord, the Bible says, “are like Mount Zion and can never be moved.” You too can be unmovable like Mount Zion if you trust in the Lord today. The Bible says, “Find out for yourself how good the Lord is.” Won’t you like to taste the Lord and see for yourself?

Reason 6: God is Omniscient

The Lord Almighty understands the future far better than we comprehend our past. As the creator and architect of what’s to come, He is fully aware of everything that has transpired and what is presently unfolding. It is therefore wise to rely on Him, for He always has our best interests at heart. Even when circumstances seem unfavorable, remember that His wisdom transcends our understanding. So, a wise person would trust God because He knows it all.

Reason 7: Faith keeps You From Sinning and Lack of Faith is a Sin

Faith in God is not just about believing in His existence, but it’s also about aligning our actions with His teachings. When we have faith, we strive to live according to God’s commandments, which in turn keeps us from sinning. This is because faith instills in us a deep reverence for God and a desire to please Him, which acts as a deterrent against sinful behavior.

There are numerous examples in the Bible where faith in God helped individuals resist sin. Let’s consider, briefly, the stories of Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Joseph.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were three Hebrew men who were taken into Babylonian captivity. Despite being in a foreign land and under the rule of a king who did not acknowledge their God, these men remained steadfast in their faith. When King Nebuchadnezzar made a golden idol and commanded everyone to worship it, they refused, choosing to stay true to their faith rather than commit the sin of idolatry. Their faith in God was so strong that they were willing to face a fiery furnace rather than sin against Him. Their story, found in Daniel 3, is a powerful testament to how faith can keep us from sinning, even under the most challenging circumstances.

Another compelling example is the story of Joseph, found in Genesis 39. As a young man, Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt, where he ended up serving in the house of Potipar, an officer of Pharaoh. Despite his circumstances, Joseph remained faithful to God. When Potipar’s wife attempted to seduce him, Joseph refused, saying, “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9). His faith in God kept him from succumbing to temptation, demonstrating that faith can indeed serve as a powerful deterrent against sin.

Faith in God is, indeed, a potent force that can keep us from sinning. It instills in us a desire to live in a way that is pleasing to God, and it gives us the strength to resist temptation, even in the face of severe trials. Have you seen that strong faith in God is a must-have for any sincere believer?

Also, the Bible asserts that anything done outside of faith is sinful. As God is the creator of all things, fear or doubt in His ability to assist during times of need displeases Him. This act equates to questioning His authority as the Creator and Lord of everything. To attain righteousness, one must have unwavering faith in God. As the Bible proclaims, the righteous shall live by faith.

Reason 8: Without Faith, You Cannot Receive from God

James 1:6 (KJV) But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
James 1:7 (KJV) For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

This passage makes it evident that without faith, you cannot receive anything from God. When you doubt His ability or willingness to grant your requests, you forfeit any hope of relief from your troubles. However, by fully trusting in God, there is no limit to what you can receive.

Reason 9: Faith Leads to Forgiveness of Sins

One of the most profound reasons to have faith in God is the promise of forgiveness. Faith is not just about believing in God’s existence; it’s also about trusting in His divine mercy and grace. When we have faith, we acknowledge our human imperfections and believe in God’s capacity to forgive.

In the Christian faith, it is believed that God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins. This act of divine love and sacrifice is the cornerstone of Christian faith. As stated in the book of Ephesians 1:7 that in him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.

This scripture emphasizes the role of faith in achieving forgiveness. By having faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice, we accept God’s forgiveness. This acceptance is not based on our deeds but on our faith in God’s mercy and love.

Reason 10: The Results of Your Faith Can Inspire Others

There’s a popular saying: “Actions speak louder than words.” This means that people are more interested in what is working for you rather than what you tell them. In other words, people tend to pay attention when a prosperity sermon or a motivational message is given by a wealthy and respected person rather than when the same message is given by a person of lower socioeconomic status.

Evangelism will become more fruitful when people start seeing the results of what we believe. This is why God performs signs and wonders in order to get the attention of His people. Dear reader, your evangelical mission will be more effective if people start seeing the hand of God in your life through your faith in Him.

Conclusion

Faith is the pinnacle and foundation of our Christian life. By it, you are made alive unto God through Jesus Christ, receive the Lord’s promises, and even do His will. Thus, it is inevitable that you should have faith in God.

Having known these things, your prayer should be, “Lord, increase my faith!”
