Sometimes, we do not notice how long we have remained in the same spiritual place. But the Christian life was never meant to be stagnant.
You are expected to grow in grace in Christ. You should not be found in the same place where you were years ago. You may still face struggles, but you are not meant to settle under the same struggles, the same inconsistencies, and the same weakness in your walk with God year after year. You are expected to grow.
“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”
Proverbs 4:18
As a child of God, Christ has made you righteous. But your Christian life is not meant to remain in a fixed state. The just man has a road before him. He may begin weak, small, and trembling, but he is still moving forward, toward God and with God.
The light grows brighter, and darkness loses power as the light increases.
The Christian does not walk from light into darkness. He does not make peace with the things Jesus saved him from through His excruciating death on the cross. He walks from dawn to noon. He begins with grace, grows in grace, and ends in glory. This is the path of holy increase.
As a believer, your faith should be growing. Your knowledge of God should deepen. Your obedience should become more sincere. Even your power in prayer should become stronger as you continue walking with the Lord.
In Christ, your path is shining more and more unto the perfect day.
Reflection Questions
- In what area of my Christian life have I accepted a fixed state instead of expecting growth?
In what areas have I gone back to the things Jesus saved me from?
Prayer
Father, thank You for making me righteous through Christ. Thank You that my life is not meant to move from light into darkness, but from light into greater light.
Help me not to remain in a fixed state. Increase my faith. Strengthen my holiness. Deepen my knowledge of You. Teach me to walk in victory, and make my prayer life stronger.
Lord, forgive me for every time I have spoken fear, defeat, and darkness over my life. I choose to agree with Your Word. You have said that the path of the just shines more and more unto the perfect day.
Help me to walk like a child of light. Help me to refuse spiritual stagnation. Help me not to live below what Christ has purchased for me.
Let my life grow brighter in obedience, brighter in faith, brighter in love, and brighter in fellowship with You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
