Richer Than Silver and Gold | Daily Breakthrough Bread | June 23, 2026

It is easy to measure our lives the way the world does, by what we own. We count the money, the property, the comfort, and from that we decide whether we are doing well or falling behind. But there is a wealth that has nothing to do with what is in your pocket, and a poverty that money can never cure.

“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”

Acts 3:6, KJV

A man lame from birth was carried daily to the gate called Beautiful to beg. When he saw Peter and John, he asked for money, the only help he could imagine. He had no idea that something far greater was standing in front of him.

Peter had no silver and no gold. By the world’s reckoning he was a poor man, poorer than many who walked past that gate. Yet Peter gave the beggar what the richest man in Jerusalem could not. He spoke the name of Jesus, and a man who had never walked rose to his feet.

Notice his words: such as I have give I thee. Peter did not give what he lacked. He gave what he had, and what he had was Christ. The coins the man wanted would have been gone by evening. What Peter gave him lasted the rest of his life.

This is the truth Acts 3 sets before all of us, rich and poor alike. You can have a full bank account and an empty soul. You can own much and still be unable to buy peace, forgiveness, or a quiet conscience at the end of the day. Silver cannot heal a broken heart. Gold cannot follow you past the grave.

And you can have very little in this world and still be among the richest of all, because you carry the One who made silver and gold in the first place. Christ in you is a treasure that does not rust, cannot be stolen, and never runs dry.

So the question is not how much you have. The question is whether you have Him. A wealthy man without Christ is poorer than the beggar who walked away healed that day. A believer who has little, but has Jesus, is richer than he knows.

Do not let money tell you that you are secure, and do not let the lack of it tell you that you are nothing. Measure your life by who is in your heart, not by what is in your hands. The man at the gate received more than he asked for, because true wealth was finally placed in his life.

Whatever your account says today, make certain of this one thing: that you have Christ. In Him, you are rich indeed.

Reflection Questions

  1. Am I measuring my life by what I own, or by whether I truly have Christ?

  2. Where am I quietly trusting silver and gold to give me what only Jesus can give?

Prayer

Lord, teach me where true wealth is found. Keep me from trusting in money when I have it, and from despair when I lack it. Let me never be so rich that I forget my need of You, nor so poor that I forget I already have You. You are my treasure. In Jesus’ name, amen.
